Abstract
Anaplasticthyroidcancer(ATC)isararebuthighlymalignantdiseasewithaverypoorprognosis.MediansurvivalratesofpatientsdiagnosedwithATCarequotedwith5monthsandthereported5-yearsdiseasespecificsurvivalratesareroughlynumberedwithabout10%(1-3).ThereportedproportionofATCrangesworldwidebetween1and10%ofallthyroidcancers-dependingonthegeographiclocationaswellasonthepointandperiodoftimeobserved.
SincemostATCsarealreadyinanadvancedstageandthereforenotresectableatthetimeofdiagnosis,manydifferenttreatmentregimenshavebeentriedsofar,unfortunatelyonlywithverylimited–ifany-success.
